WE Arts is proud to announce the award of a Vancouver Foundation Small Grant to enable our second local Pop-up Art Gallery in Vancouver’s West End.
What is a Pop-up Gallery ?
The pop-up gallery idea is simple, we utilize empty retail space for the purpose of holding a temporary local art show. The show is intended to feature local artists, both known and unknown, showcasing their artwork to the public and selling the art if buyers desire.
When was the last Pop-up Gallery ?
August 2014 we held an 8 day pop-up in a vacated flower store on Denman, where 22 local artists were featured, the opening night saw over 400 locals attend and 3 pieces of art sell. About a thousand folks passed through the space that was operated by the artists. The opening reception was sponsored by Volcanic Hills Winery, live music by Straw Dog. A huge acknowledgement and thanks goes to our volunteer crew headed up by Gary & Anees Peterman. Thanks also to our kind hosts Time Square Suites who donated the space, you shared our vision for community arts, and facilitated one of our most successful events to date for WE Arts.
How do we create more events like this ?
First up we need a venue… so a landlord of a vacant retail space who likes the idea of animating their space with local art and artists. The space needs to be donated by the landlord at zero cost to us, WE Arts provides event insurance and we have some city permit paperwork to complete, then we invite artists to submit, set a date, then go live to promote and deliver an amazing experience for all. It takes team work, volunteers and some dedicated time, so feel free to step up and join our Pop-up team.
When will this happen ?
Ideally early September, or sometime between now and the end of November. It all depends on the space availability. It could happen sooner and at short notice, so be sure to let us know if you’d like to be involved.
I’d like to be a featured artist for the Pop-up Gallery
